The Faculty of Law at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) continues to strengthen its international partnerships as Prof. Iwan Satriawan, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Sunarno, the Head of Law Study Program, paid a visit to the Faculty of Law at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UaB) in Spain. The visit, which took place on March 5, 2024, was marked by a series of productive meetings and an enlightening public lecture.

Upon their arrival, Prof. Iwan Satriawan and Assoc. Prof. Sunarno were warmly welcomed by Prof. Susana Navas, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. The meeting began with a cordial exchange of greetings and an introduction to the vibrant academic community at UaB.

The primary objective of the visit was to facilitate discussions on future academic collaboration and exchange programs between the two esteemed institutions. Prof. Iwan Satriawan expressed UMY’s keen interest in fostering closer ties with UaB, particularly in the areas of legal research, student exchanges, and joint academic initiatives.

In a highlight of the visit, Prof. Iwan Satriawan delivered a distinguished public lecture on the topic of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia. The lecture, which took place in front of faculty members and students from the Faculty of Law at UaB, provided valuable insights into the development and role of the Constitutional Court in Indonesia’s legal system.

During his lecture, Prof. Iwan Satriawan delved into the historical context and evolution of the Constitutional Court of Indonesia, highlighting its pivotal role in safeguarding the constitution and upholding the principles of democracy and rule of law. He also shared recent landmark decisions and the impact they have had on Indonesia’s legal landscape.

The audience at UaB was engaged and attentive throughout the lecture, posing thoughtful questions and engaging in lively discussions on comparative constitutional law.
