The 4th Asian Conference on Comparative Laws (ASIANCOL) has been successfully held at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on August 9-10, 2023. Hosted by UMY and its University Partners, ASIANCOL aimed to foster discussions on the theme “Harmonization of Laws in a Disruptive World: Prospects and Challenges.”

The conference commenced with a Plenary Session held at the prestigious KH. Ibrahim Building E6, 5th floor of UMY. Distinguished legal scholars and professionals from across the globe gathered to exchange insights and ideas on the pressing topic of law harmonisation. The event was also made accessible to a wider audience through a hybrid approach, allowing participants to join in-person and online via Zoom.

Three esteemed keynote speakers representing Monash University, Australia; Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey; and Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University took the stage during the plenary session. Their presentations delved into various dimensions of law harmonisation, exploring its potential benefits and challenges in a rapidly changing world.

Following the insightful Plenary Session, the conference continued with Parallel Sessions. These sessions provided a platform for more in-depth discussions and presentations on specific legal issues related to harmonization. The Parallel Sessions were conducted offline and online, enabling participants to engage in meaningful discourse regardless of geographical location.

ASIANCOL 2023 served as a crucial forum for legal experts, scholars, and practitioners to explore the dynamic landscape of harmonizing laws in an era of disruption. The event facilitated the exchange of ideas, best practices, and innovative approaches, contributing to advancing law harmonisation across Asia and beyond.
